3 Of The Best Benefits Of The Vegetarian Diet

Many people find that the vegetarian diet helps them maintain a healthy weight and reduces their risk of specific health problems. However, that’s only true if they don’t eat greasy veggie burgers and fries.

If you’re looking to eat more fruits and vegetables and improve your health, a vegetarian diet might be worth trying. While switching is safe for most people, discussing any significant dietary or lifestyle changes with your doctor is a good idea. Consider meeting with a nutritionist if you’re concerned that plant-based foods aren’t meeting your dietary needs.

Vegetarians are also generally more mindful of their food choices, which can improve their overall health.

The Vegetarian Diet Is Sustainable

Vegetarianism is environmentally friendly, as it consumes less land and water than meat. While a vegetarian diet is considered more sustainable, recent research has found that eating less meat can reduce your carbon footprint.

Vegetarianism also minimizes non-atmospheric pollution. Since plants do not require antibiotics and hormones as animals do, they typically release fewer pollutants into soil and water. Growing forage crops also requires more fertilizers and pesticides than most other crops. Therefore, replacing meat with vegetables can effectively reduce the use of chemicals and the resulting environmental pollution.

Vegetarianism Improves Metabolism

According to a study published in the journal Nutrients, a vegetarian diet is associated with a higher metabolic rate. The researchers monitored the diet and metabolism of 24 vegetarians and 26 nonvegetarians. The biochemical analysis also observed diet-related markers of inflammation. Compared with nonvegetarians, vegetarians lowered their cholesterol levels, had higher levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines, and had higher metabolic rates. The study adds to other studies showing that diet plays a more significant role than an exercise in maintaining a healthy metabolic rate.

Vegetarian food is easy to digest and keeps people’s metabolism in good condition. Vegetarians also had a significantly higher resting metabolic rate (RMR). You need to know that RMR is directly related to a person’s metabolism – meaning the higher the RMR, the faster they burn fat and vice versa.

Beautiful And Healthy Skin

If you want to have healthy skin, you need to get the right amount of vitamins and minerals through plenty of water. The fruits and vegetables we eat are very rich in vitamins, minerals, and also have enough antioxidants. Plus, because they’re water-based, eating them raw further enhances the absorption of healthy nutrients. Many vegetarian foods are also rich in antioxidants, which can help keep disease at bay and have healthier skin.
