Compared with nonvegetarians, vegetarians lowered their cholesterol levels, had higher levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines, and had higher metabolic rates. The study adds to other studies showing that diet plays a more significant role than an exercise in maintaining a healthy metabolic rate.
