Easy Homemade Tomato Sauce Recipe

If you love cooking, then a good tomato sauce is a must-have for you. It is used for a range of dishes spaghetti, pizza, chicken, etc. Tomato sauce can be easily made at home using few ingredients and a simple recipe. You can also experiment with the ingredients if you are confident enough. That’s why many famous chefs have their signature sauces.

Ingredients

  • 10-12 ripe tomatoes.
  • 1 onion, chopped.
  • 2 carrots, chopped.
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh basil, chopped.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil.
  • 2 tablespoons butter.
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic minced.
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley.
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste.

Directions

Step 1: Take a big pot of water and bring it to a boil. Add tomatoes to it until their skin starts to come off. This will take about a minute. Take the tomatoes out and rinse them with cold water. Peel the skin and remove the seeds. Cut the remaining part and use a blender to make the purée.

Step 2: This step is Sofrito. Sofrito is a common term used in Italian and Spanish cooking. It means a mixture of lightly fried onions and garlic with tomatoes or other vegetables. Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Keep the flames on medium. Once heated, add chopped onions, carrots, and parsley. Stir to coat. Reduce the heat and add butter to it. Cook until onions and carrots become soft. Add minced garlic to it and increase the flame—Cook for 30 seconds.

Step 3: Add the tomato purée from step 1 and fresh basil to step 2. Season it with salt and black pepper. Cook it on simmer and uncovered for about 15-20 minutes until thickened.

Cool it and store it in a jar.
