Learn How to Make The Authentic Greek Tzatziki Dip

Tzatziki is a dip or sauce that is found in the cuisines of the Middle East, but it is more famous in Greece than anywhere else. Its place of origin it’s the Ottoman Empire. This greek popular dip, it is so fresh and easy to make with ingredients that are in every kitchen.

Tzatziki is the perfect, fresh and healthy dip for crunchy crisps, however, the greek they serve it with toasted pitta bread or with a meat roasted platter that could be chicken or lamb.

Let’s learn how to make an easy, quick and fresh Tzatziki at home.

Tzatziki is also called cacık or tarator, is a dip or sauce found in the cuisines of Southeast Europe and the Middle East, but it is more popular in Greece.


  • 1 Peeled and grated cucumber
  • 200g Greek yoghurt
  • 1 Crushed garlic 
  •  10 Chopped fresh mint leaves
  •  ½ Lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil
  • Some oregano to decorate with


  1. The first step is to add a bit of salt and pepper then squeeze out all the liquid from the cucumber that you previously grated.
  2. Then, in a bowl, you add the cucumber, the lemon juice, the olive oil, the crushed garlic, the chopped mint leaves, the yoghurt and you mix with a spoon till you get a creamy homogenous mix.
  3. You serve the mix in a nice bowl then you sparkle the black pepper, the salt and the oregano, you can also add some more olive oil to make it look much nicer.

Remember that the Tzatziki can only be made by the Greek yogurt only, other types of yogurt will never give the same texture.
