The Greek cuisine is one of the oldest cuisines in the world, most of the greek dishes have their origin from Ancient Greece.

Located in the Mediterranean Sea and influenced by the Middle East and the Ancient Ottomans, it what makes this cuisine have a similarity with other countries when it comes to the ingredients used for elaborating the dishes.

Its main ingredients we can find Mediterranean vegetables, olive oil, fish, seafood, different kinds of meats, bread and also cheeses, however, the Greek cuisine is easily identified.

Here are 3 of the most popular Greek dishes that you must try when you visit Greece:

  • Grilled or Baked Feta Cheese: This is the famous Feta Cheese, but served in a different way. The cheese is baked till it becomes a creamy texture, it is usually topped with tomato, oregano, olive oil, green pepper belts and spicy pepper flakes.
  • Moussaka: There are different ways of making this dish, however, the traditional recipe contains aubergines, lamb, potatoes and a topping of cheese and bechamel. Lot of restaurants and homes they use the beef instead of the lamb and some people avoid adding the potatoes to make the dish less fatty and caloric.

Tzatziki is a dip found in Greek cuisine. It is made of salted strained yoghurt mixed with cucumbers, garlic, salt, olive oil, sometimes with vinegar or lemon juice, and herbs such as dill, mint, parsley and thyme.
  • Souvlaki: This is a simple but very delicious dish, which is made of grilled meat on a skewer. It could be lamb, chicken or beef, however, the most popular in Greece is the one that is made with mixed beef and lamb. It is usually served with a salad on the side, pita bread and Tzatziki.
