The consumption of tea has retained its charm in China even today. Tea has had an incredibly close link to Chinese culture over several centuries now. It personifies not only the spirit of Chinese civilization but also the quintessential spirit of ideology.
Why Does China Produce Such Fine Tea Leaves?
China has the perfect climate and the soil to enable the cultivation of some of the finest tea leaves in the world. The country produces more than two million tons of tea every year. The mammoth production figure makes it the largest tea producer in the world. The beverage has been a major component of the country’s social fabric. The drink has also played a crucial role in the daily life of the Chinese and also in the economic development of the country.
It is believed that tea became a part of the civilization as early as 2737 BCE. Supposedly, Emperor Shennong drank boiled water and as chance would have it, some leaves had fallen into the drink. The Chinese emperor had a deep interest in science. He had even passed a direction that people should drink boiled water for hygienic purposes.
So, when he observed the hot water turned into a brownish hue due to those leaves, it is said he was spellbound. He drank the colored water as he was passionate about scientific discovery.
The country is famous for a host of tea types. It produces a popular range of tea leaves ranging from black to green, white and Oolong tea. The country always has had a lively culture of tea drinking. Great attention was paid to the environment within which it is drunk and the taste. There is tea lore that blends in the theories of morality, ethics, and philosophy.
